Brentford 1 Wolves 4

Thomas Frank’s side faced Wolves at the Gtech Community Stadium, knowing that Gary O’Neil’s team would prove a tough nut to crack. The visitors had been on a good run of late, having beaten Chelsea on Christmas Eve at Molineux.

Hwang nearly forced the first goal of the game when he whipped in a dangerous ball from the byline but as the Brentford defender looked to deal with it, he almost put into his own net and was as relieved as anyone to see his clearance go over the crossbar.

Any hope that the hosts may learn from this warning were dispelled when Sarabia crossed from the left, to pick out Lemina at the back post who headed home to give the visitors the lead. Wolves had come to the capital full of confidence and it was showing.

Nathan Collins then seemed to still be in the Christmas giving vibe as his under-hit back pass to Flekken allowed Hwang to steal in, round the keeper and run the ball into an empty net. In the space of a minute, the visitors had stamped their authority on this game.

O’Neil will be annoyed how his side then failed to clear their lines as Brentford looked for an immediate reply and as the ball broke to Wissa in the box, he punished them. His first-time strike beat Jose Sa and gave their fans some hope of turning this game around.

It gave The Bees some newfound confidence and as Lewis-Potter swung a teasing cross into the box, Janelt should have scored but headed his effort straight at the Wolves keeper. This was to prove a costly miss for Frank’s side.

Toti then won a header on the halfway line which found its way to Hwang on the edge of the box. The Wolves striker did the rest as he dribbled into the box before slotting past Flekken to restore the visitors’ two-goal lead in London.

Brentford weren’t willing to fold just yet, Thomas Frank sides don’t play that way and as a free kick was lifted into the box, it was met by the head of Ghoddos. Two yards out, in the middle of the goal, he could not keep his effort down as it sailed over the bar.

Ait-Nouri fed the ball to Cunha in the second half and the Brazilian got a left-footed strike away, beating Flekken, only to see it come back off the post. The Wolves attacker could not believe his bad luck and wondered if they would regret that.

Collins then repeated his woeful passing from the first half as he gifted a pass to Cunha, who unselfishly squared it to Bellegarde deep into added time. The substitute was clinical as he drove the ball past the Brentford keeper to put the icing on the cake for the visitors.

The travelling fans will have been glad they made the trip down south as their team convincingly put The Bees to the sword. For Brentford, it was a fourth consecutive defeat, that will be the biggest concern as Nathan Collins hung his head in shame. The defender will want to forget this one quickly.
