Brighton 1 Nott'm Forest 0

After a disappointing defeat in Rome during the week, Roberto De Zerbi’s side were looking for a response. They welcomed Nott’m Forest to the Amex Stadium, with the visitors desperate for points as they only just sat outside the bottom three.

Baleba picked the ball up outside the box and looked to make some space before curling a shot towards the far post. Sels was at full-stretch but the effort did just not have enough bend on it as it went narrowly wide.

Adingra was causing problems for the visitors with his pace and one such situation led to Forest giving away a free kick just outside the box. As the ball was swung in, Moder flicked it on but Sels reacted well to keep the effort out.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were struggling to deal with The Seagulls. They were giving fouls away all over the pitch and picking up cards in the process. Pascal Gross swung one such free kick in towards the near post and the ball nestled in the back of the net.

It was hard to see who got the final touch but the replay cleared that up. As keeper, defender and attacker all challenged each other the ball struck Omobamidele before heading into his own goal. When it rains it pours for the visitors at the moment.

They almost found a way straight back into the game as Divock Origi broke clear. With only Verbruggen in front of him, the striker got a shot away but the keeper managed to make a block with his feet. In a game of fine margins, this is part of the problem for the visitors right now.

Gibbs-White started to get more involved in the second half and spotted the run of Origi. He had nothing else on his mind but going for goal but his shot rose over the top corner and into the stands. You could see the idea but the execution wasn’t good enough.

Forest were starting to ask questions of the hosts now and the tackles were flying in from both sets of players. If you ever wondered what a win meant to these two teams, the start of the second half was starting to underpin that.

Chris Wood got into the box on his return from injury and only a fingertip save from Verbruggen could deny him a goal. He has been a big loss for Nott’m Forest and the manager will be pleased to have his target man back for the run in.

In a rare counter-attack for The Seagulls, Enciso looked to shoot from distance. It narrowly missed the top corner and almost sealed the win for Brighton. They were looking to stumble over the line to gain a much-needed win.

Roberto De Zerbi celebrated at the final whistle like they had won the cup with all his coaches. It goes to show after their humbling at the hands of Roma, just how much this win meant to them. It was another frustrating afternoon for Nuno Espirito-Santo.
