Brighton 1 Sheff Utd 1

Roberto de Zerbi’s side welcomed Sheff Utd to the Amex Stadium, a side who they have a horrendous record against. The Seagulls have only won one of the last twelve meetings between the two sides.

After their European adventures in the week, the Brighton manager made six changes to the side that beat Ajax in Amsterdam. It was not through choice as injuries depleted the Italian’s options for this game.

It was the perfect start for the hosts as Adingra picked the ball up on the right and headed towards goal, playing a one-two with Buonanotte, before slotting his shot past Foderingham in only the sixth minute of the game.

The Seagulls continued to exert pressure as Ansu Fati was put through but the Sheff Utd keeper did well to save with his feet and deny the hosts a second goal. It was going to be yet another busy day for Foderingham it seemed.

Gilmour was the next to try his luck from distance, forcing the keeper to turn his effort over the bar. The Scottish midfielder has yet to register a goal for Brighton but when the ball left his boot, he must have thought this was the moment.

Mitoma came on for the hosts at half-time and as he combined with Dahoud, the ball was crossed into the box, deflecting off a Sheff Utd defender. Brighton were adamant that it had struck a hand but VAR reviewed it and agreed with the onfield decision.

Of course, as the referee had decided not to give a penalty, they were not checking for handball but as to whether the official had made a clear and obvious error. Some of these rules make you wonder whether they were drawn up by a tramp on acid at times.

Things went from bad to worse for Roberto de Zerbi as Dahoud was given a straight red card with over twenty minutes of the game remaining. He clearly stamped on the back of the calf of the Sheff Utd player as the replay showed.

Referee John Brooks has now shown more red cards than Penn & Teller as this chalked up his fourth of the season, which of course is only twelve games in. He is handing out three week holidays to Premier League footballers like it is some sort of TUI prize draw.

The Blades were to take advantage of the situation of Bogle drilled a cross towards the back post and was turned into his own net by Webster. Brighton were seemingly paying the price for not taking their chances earlier in the game.

Jayden Bogle then had the chance to win the game as the ball dropped to him late on, in front of goal, but he scuffed his shot wide of the goal. What a chance for Sheff Utd to make it two wins on the trot.

The points were shared and Brighton have now gone six games without a win for the first time in the Roberto de Zerbi era. Considering the match as a whole, The Blades will see this as a point gained as they spent a lot of time under the cosh and are now unbeaten in their last two games.
