Burnley 1 Chelsea 4

Burnley were buoyant from their first win of the season against Luton Town in the week but they welcomed a Chelsea side at Turf Moor, having lost all of their four home games this season. The visitors almost opened the scoring early on when Sterling cut inside and tried to bend one into the bottom corner, but his effort went narrowly wide.

The Clarets came forward for the first time, playing some neat passing and as the ball was worked to Odobert at the back post, he took one touch to steady himself and drilled his shot into the bottom corner. Turf Moor erupted as they seemed to be finding their feet in the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany’s side almost made it two as Tresor ghosted in at the back post with Colwill dallying on the cross but he could not get a telling touch to test Sanchez in the Chelsea goal. You felt at this stage that could be a pivotal moment in the game.

Gallagher played a ball into the back post to find Enzo Fernandes but the Argentinian has not looked convincing in front of goal and dwelled too long, allowing Cullen to clear the ball. Sterling then looked to cross from a tight angle and the ball deflected off the thigh of Al Dakhil, looping up over Trafford and into the goal.

Burnley made a scrappy start to the second half and started giving the ball away in dangerous areas and as Sterling picked it up and ran towards goal, he was brought down by Vitinho. The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Cole Palmer stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

The Clarets tried to find a way back into the game and when Odobert cut in from the left and unleashed a shot, Sanchez was forced to tip it over the bar. Kompany’s side are struggling to score the goals required of this league to win games.

Chelsea then won the ball in the middle of the park and worked it out to Sterling on the left who again made a bee-line for the box and this time slotted the ball past Trafford to put the visitors three-one up.

The former Man City winger was the difference between the sides in the second half and as he began to cause troubles once again, he crossed to find Palmer at the back post who laid it off to Jackson. He had way too much time on the ball, dummied a shot and dragged the ball onto his left foot before tucking the ball home.

Defensively, Burnley look too open and good sides are finding it all too easy to score goals against them, something you cannot afford to do at this level. It was a convincing win for Chelsea and they made it two wins on the spin to try and steady things under their new manager.
