Burnley 1 Luton Town 1

As Burnley met Luton Town at Turf Moor, it was already a ‘must win’ game for both sides. The bottom three currently includes all the sides who came up last season, with many wondering if they have what it takes for life in the Premier League.

The Clarets started on the front foot and were playing some neat one-touch football. The visitors could not get anywhere near them as the ball was played into the path of Gudmundsson. He fired his shot straight at Trafford who made a routine save.

This is what will cost Burnley come the end of the season. You cannot afford to miss such glaring chances as this. Having worked so hard to create the opportunity, the midfielder should be scoring when presented with such an opening.

Doughty has proved to be such a dangerous player for Luton when they come forward. His delivery into the box is pinpoint and he creates so many chances for their forward line. As he whipped another ball across the six yard box, Adebayo just could not get the touch to finish.

Rob Edwards’ side were starting to grow in confidence. Playing a far more direct style of play, it was laid off to Barkley outside the box, who tried to bend one in the top corner. Trafford proved equal to it as he punched it over the bar.

Ogbene continued to threaten down the right, twisting and turning the Burnley defenders. As he dropped his shoulder and shifted the ball to his right, he got a shot away from a tight angle but it was never enough to beat James Trafford in the Burnley goal.

Despite knocking on the door, the visitors could not find a way through and Burnley broke on the counter-attack. Odobert did brilliantly to beat his man and get to the byline before picking out Amdouni in the box. His shot beat Kaminski and the defender on the line to give them the lead.

Vincent Kompany’s side started the second half as they finished the first. Vitinho cut inside, knocking the ball around the defender, to fire a left-footed shot towards the far corner. Sadly for The Clarets’ man he could not keep the effort down.

Wilson Odobert has looked impressive since being given his chance in this Burnley team. His quick feet and pace allowed him to cut inside onto his right foot and get a shot away. As it took a huge deflection, it had Kaminski scrambling, as he just managed to claw it around the post.

The Clarets were all over Luton Town at this stage and it just seemed a matter of time before they scored. Odobert had switched to the right and was weaving his way around their defence, before getting a shot off, but Kaminski managed to block at his near post.

For all the pressure they put on the visitors in this game, Kompany will be frustrated that they could not convert this into goals. Having played at this level so long as a player, he knows it will be the difference between staying up or getting relegated.

Luton could sense a chance to punish the hosts as time ebbed away. In added time Doughty lofted a cross into the box and as Trafford looked to come for it, he seemed to be blocked off. Morris gratefully accepted as he headed the ball into an empty goal to equalise.

The Clarets’ players went berserk with the referee as they demanded a free kick. VAR reviewed it and as usual took so long fans at Turf Moor wondered whether they would have to cancel plans they had made for the evening.

Finally, they came to a decision and the goal was given. Having seen the replay, it was a tough one to call. It seemed Adebayo blocked Trafford but am sure the player would just argue he stood his ground. It is the risk a keeper takes in trying to come through a sea of players to collect a cross.

It seemed a massive point for the visitors given how late in the game they scored. Vincent Kompany was deflated after the game as he could not believe that the goal stood. The points were shared and it did neither of these teams any favours in their plight for safety.
