Burnley 2 Fulham 2

Burnley faced Fulham at Turf Moor with both sides having brought in extra reinforcements on transfer deadline day to try and change their fortunes. For Vincent Kompany the aim was defenders, while Marco Silva desperately sought a striker.

Fulham had not scored in five of their last six games and saw Chelsea’s Armando Broja as the answer to their questions. It is almost like they have never seen Pochettino’s side play, like when Arsenal paid all that money for Kai Havertz.

It did not seem to be an issue for The Cottagers as Palhinha flicked on Pereira’s corner to give them the lead early on in the game. Only Sheff Utd have conceded more goals than The Clarets this season, a big reason why they both find themselves in the bottom three.

The fans who had travelled from West London were getting rewards for their commitment as Pereira hooked the ball forward for Muniz to loft it over the head of Trafford. It was the Brazilian’s first goal in Fulham colours and he enjoyed it.

Marco Silva’s side were dominating the game and Pereria had the chance to make it three but Trafford blocked his shot from a tight angle. Things were not going well for Kompany’s side as the visitors unlocked their defence repeatedly.

Odobert bundled his way through the Fulham defence before drilling a shot for the far corner but it missed the post by the narrowest of margins. It seems to be the way it is going for The Clarets in the final third this season. Quite the difference from their last campaign.

Willian received the ball and shifted it onto his right foot before looking to bend one in the bottom corner. Trafford got down well to claw the ball away from goal. The Burnley keeper was getting very little protection from his defence.

As the corner came in, Tosin rose to head the ball like a bullet towards goal. Only the quick reactions of Trafford were to deny him as he tipped it over the bar. Muniz almost got his second as he struck a shot to the near post but the Burnley keeper once again blocked the shot.

Odobert was still causing problems for the visitors’ defence but as the ball broke to Brownhill, he blazed his shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Kompany’s side really do seem to lack some composure in front of goal.

Palhinha set up Willian outside the box and almost a carbon copy effort drew another smart save out of Trafford. As the corner came in, Burnley managed to clear and quickly broke on the counter-attack. Silva’s side looked stretched as they had brought players up for the set piece.

Assignon crossed from the left and Leno got it all wrong as he misjudged the flight of the ball and it sailed over his head. Fofana was there to head the ball into an empty net. The Chelsea loanee scoring on his first start for The Clarets to give them hope of getting something from the game.

Tete then had an air swipe at the ball on the wing, allowing Odobert to get down the flank. He crossed into a dangerous area and Fofana bundled the ball over the line to grab an equaliser in added time. The Chelsea striker had grabbed a brace to earn his side a point.

Turf Moor erupted and this result will give Vincent Kompany’s side some confidence in their battle against relegation. It is ironic that Chelsea seem to be lacking a striker themselves but loan two out on deadline day. The Blues’ loss seems to be Burnley’s gain.
