Crystal Palace 3 Wolves 2

Roy Hodgson will be pleased with the start his side have made to the campaign with a solitary defeat against Arsenal being the only blemish on their record. They welcomed Gary O’Neil’s Wolves to Selhurst Park looking to improve on their record.

The visitors had only won one game all season but this was in their last outing when they grabbed a late winner against Everton. Arguably they should have got more from their trip to Old Trafford but instead they just got an apology from Howard Webb for PGMOL’s incompetency. Whether these can be cashed in for points at the end of the season remains to be seen.

Palace started on the front foot and will feel they should have had a penalty when Eze went to ground in the box. It was not given and as the replay showed it would have been a soft decision, on this occasion the referee had got it right.

Hodgson’s side almost took the lead when they robbed Wolves of the ball as they were looking to pass it about at the back and when the ball was squared to Ayew with the keeper taken out of the game, it looked a goal was certain but the sliding Kilman was able to clear it off the line.

The second half proved to be a goal fest as firstly Mitchell crossed from the left to find Edouard at the near post to slot it home. Selhurst Park erupted as they could sense this game was there for the taking for their team.

Wolves weren’t ready to fold however as Hwang headed in a cross from a free kick to draw the visitors level less than ten minutes from when they fell behind, with the away end exploding into celebrations.

The visitors got themselves into trouble once again, trying to play the ball out from the back but Ayew’s effort was well saved by Sa to keep The Eagles out. Eze was the next player to test the keeper but the Portuguese stopper was equal to it.

Eze was not to be denied as he put Palace into the lead with only twelve minutes of normal time remaining. Roy Hodgson’s team felt they had sealed the points when Edouard added another six minutes later to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.

Cunha got a goal back for Wolves in the sixth minute of added time but it seemed nothing more than a consolation as there was no time for them to find an equaliser. The Eagles took all the points and got themselves to seventh place in the Premier League table. For Wolves however, it looks like it may be a difficult season for their long-suffering fans this term.
