Fulham 3 Sheff Utd 1

We are only seven games into the season as Marco Silva’s side welcomed Sheff Utd to Craven Cottage but this already felt like a must-win game for both sides. Mr Monopoly, Shahid Khan, was in attendance for the game hoping to see a Fulham victory.

They got off to a good start as Willian swung a ball in which Decordova-Reid managed to get to but he could not keep his shot down as it went over the bar. Willian then ghosted through the middle, as Vinicius found him, he could not beat Foderingham in the visitor’s goal.

The game was then held up for some time as Basham suffered a horrendous injury, the kind that you will only see images of, pixelated in the national press. Twelve minutes later, Fulham continued to create chances as this time Pereira missed a sitter.

Sheff Utd started the second half more positively, almost as if their manager reiterated how they were personally responsible for him likely to not have a job this Christmas. As a corner came in, McBurnie had a free header six yards out but hit it straight at the keeper.

It is a struggle to see where goals are going to come from for The Blades, even more concerning when their defence seem to give their opponents chances at regular intervals. They lost the ball in the final third and Fulham played through them with some slick passing, resulting in Decordova-Reid slotting past Foderingham.

Once this Sheff Utd side go a goal behind, it is difficult to see how they can get back into the game. Archer tried his best but his teasing ball across the six yard box eluded McBurnie. Finally their prayers were answered when a cross was turned into his own net by Robinson.

Again Sheff Utd gave the ball away and Cairney shot from distance, it struck the crossbar and went in off the back of Foderingham. It just about summed up The Blades’ luck so far this season. Wilson then shot from outside the box but his effort thundered back into play off the post.

In added time, Willian picked the ball up in the box and ran across goal before shooting and Foderingham could not keep it out as it nestled into the bottom corner. Things just go from bad to worse for Paul Heckingbottom as they lost yet another game and some players in the process.

Sheff Utd find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table with a solitary point this season and their manager must be starting to worry whenever he sees the chairman’s name and number come up on his phone.
