Luton Town 1 Brentford 5

Rob Edwards’ side are getting more desperate for points with each game. Premier League survival is proving to be quite the challenge for Luton Town as they still sit in the bottom three. Brentford were the visitors to Kenilworth Road, missing star striker Ivan Toney who was ruled out through injury.

Thomas Frank’s side has secured an important win last weekend and were playing with confidence from the off. Damsgaard found Lewis-Potter in the box but he sliced his shot wide of the goal. Early warning for the hosts.

Lokonga was back in the Luton team and looked in good form. He burst through the middle and fed the ball out wide. As the hosts tried to work a shooting opportunity, the ball broke to Doughty, who drilled a shot at goal but Flekken did well to beat the effort clear.

Damsgaard then played a teasing ball into the box which was met by the head of Lewis-Potter. His effort was brilliantly clawed out of the goal by Kaminski to deny the visitors a goal. Brentford were starting to ask real questions of Rob Edwards’ side.

The Bees came forward again and Mbuemo laid the ball into the path of Wissa. He hit a first-time shot into the top corner of the goal to give the visitors the lead. Kenilworth Road fell silent but apart from the away end.

Edwards’ side tried to find an immediate reply and the ball dropped to Chong in the box. He fired a shot off at goal but was leaning back and sent his effort well over the crossbar. If The Hatters are going to stay up this season, they need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Brentford were looking for more goals. Firstly, Ajer cut a ball back from the byline before Kabore almost turned it into his own net. Then Lewis-Potter ran at the defence and got a shot off but it was narrowly deflected over the bar by a Luton Town head.

The visitors were looking dangerous in attack. Mbuemo had struck the crossbar moments earlier before attacker found Wissa in the box to poke home and double their lead. Luton Town had chances to clear the ball but had failed miserably.

This is one of the biggest reasons they are in the position they find themselves in. All too often their defending resembles that of an under-8 side, swiping at and missing the ball and generally looking as organised as the front line of the Taliban army.

Wissa was having a great game and found Damsgaard outside the box. His shot into the bottom corner was well saved by Kaminski. Moments later as a corner was whipped in, Pinnock had a free header and guided it into the top corner of the goal.

Only two minutes later, Mbuemo clipped a ball into the back post from the byline and Lewis-Potter headed home to confound the home fans’ misery. They had come to the game hoping to see a win and were getting a lesson from one of the teams in the relegation dogfight with them.

Ajer almost added a fifth but for a great save from Kaminski. Try as they might, Luton’s defence had more holes than a Ryder Cup event. The ball was squared across the box and Schade drilled his shot home to surely secure The Bees’ Premier League status for next season.

The Hatters managed to capitalise on a poor pass from Janelt and Berry rounded the keeper to slot home. It was nothing more than a late consolation goal in added time. This was a huge win for Thomas Frank’s side and an impressive performance with it.
