Luton Town 1 Sheff Utd 3

The Hatters welcomed bottom of the table Sheff Utd to Kenilworth Road with Rob Edwards’ side looking to continue their recent good form. Chris Wilder’s side had not won a Premier League game since the start of December.

Having not won in their opening eleven away games in the league, The Blades started in positive mood. As they pressed the hosts and forced a loose clearance, the ball was worked to McAtee whose shot from the edge of the box narrowly missed the far post.

Sheff Utd were playing more like the side we saw last season and as Vinicius Souza won a header in the final third, the ball broke to Archer, with the goal at his mercy. Somehow, he dragged his shot wide from six yards out when it seemed easier to score.

He soon made up for his error as he cut inside from the left and did Kaminski with his eyes as the keeper dived one way and he slotted the ball in the other corner. It was a calm finish from the forward considering the chance he had just missed.

The away end went berserk, celebrations last seen when finding out despite Eddark Stark’s death in the show Game of Thrones, that Sean Bean was still alive in real life. Moments like this come rarely to the people of Sheffield.

Wilder’s side continued to attack and Souza had a chance as he met a corner with his head but it was a simple save for Kaminski. Despite no appeals from anyone, VAR reviewed the incident and awarded the visitors a penalty as his header struck a stray arm on the way through to goal.

James McAtee stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way as he casually stroked his penalty into the back of the net. Kenilworth Road fell into stunned silence as this was definitely not on the script they had read on their way to the game.

Luton forced a corner early on after the interval and as Adebayo met it, his header was blocked by the Sheff Utd bodies in front of him. The Hatters appealed for handball but the referee was not interested and waved away their protests.

VAR reviewed the incident and sent the referee to the monitor to watch their least favourite TV show. After watching several replays, Chris Kavanagh changed his decision and pointed to the spot. The visitors can feel hard done by as their player did not know anything about the handball.

Common sense sadly does not come into the world of refereeing, part of the reason they are now contemplating on arming them with more cards than Dynamo. Morris stepped up and stroked the ball home to half the deficit for the hosts.

The Hatters were in confident mood now and as Morris received the ball outside the box, he turned and shot, forcing a save from Foderingham in the bottom corner of the goal. Many inside the ground felt it was only a matter of time before Edwards’ side equalised.

Barkley was then dispossessed in the visitors’ half and The Blades broke away. As The Hatters missed several chances to clear their lines, the ball was passed to Souza at the back post, who drilled a shot across Kaminski to restore Sheff Utd’s two goal lead.

Chris Wilder’s side held on for all ten minutes of added time to secure an important three points. These are the kind of results that can change a team’s season and Blades’ fans will be hoping this is the start of the Premier League’s most unlikely escapology act.
