Luton Town 2 Bournemouth 1

The Hatters welcomed Bournemouth to Kenilworth Road in the reverse fixture of a momentous game. At the Vitality Stadium, Rob Edwards’ side had led three-nil at half time, only to see The Cherries come back to win the game four-three.

Holding onto leads has been an issue for Luton Town this season, as they learnt some harsh lessons in their first season back in the Premier League. Now they were desperate for points as they tried to secure their top-flight status.

Barkley was robbed of the ball in his own half and hauled down the attacker as he tried to recover. Tavernier stepped up to take the free kick and thundered his curling effort against the post, with Kaminski rooted to the spot.

The Cherries continued to dominate the early stages of the game and Solanke played the ball into Kluivert on the edge of the box. The forward got a low shot away, only to see his effort clip the outside of the post and go wide.

The Hatters finally awoke from their slumber as they attacked down the right wing. The ball was played into Chong, who did well to lose his marker, before firing his shot off at goal. Sadly, the ball was always rising as it went over the crossbar.

Bournemouth were asking questions of the hosts more and more. As a corner was whipped into the box, Semenyo rose to meet it but missed the ball. It dropped to hit an unsuspecting Hashioka before Kaminski got down well to claw the ball away.

Kerkez gave the ball away in a dangerous area and Barkley fed it to Morris in the box. He managed to get a shot away but Neto made a superb save, getting down well to turn the ball away from goal. This was turning into a very entertaining stalemate at this point.

On an attack for the visitors, Kluivert worked the ball to Tavernier outside the box. He shifted the ball onto his left-foot and drilled a shot into the far corner. Kaminski had no chance of keeping the effort out as The Cherries broke the deadlock.

The Hatters were never going to give up in this game as they started to exert some pressure. Morris was found in the box once again and he did well to get a shot off at goal, only to see it rebound back off the post. So close to an equaliser for Rob Edwards’ side.

Clark was starting to prove influential in the middle of the park for the hosts. He went on a mazy run towards goal before a sliding challenge dispossessed him. Berry then put in a strong tackle before the ball broke back into the path of Clark.

He allowed the ball to run across him before rifling off a shot into the bottom corner of the goal which set Kenilworth Road alight in the spring sunshine. With over a quarter of an hour to play, there was plenty of time for the hosts to turn this game on its head.

Luton Town were growing in confidence and Woodrow swung in a cross from the right wing. Morris lost his man and tucked the ball into the bottom corner. The ground erupted as The Hatters got a goal which could win this pivotal game and their season as a whole.

They held on for all three points and the emotion was clear to see from players, coaches and the manager. Luton’s fans celebrated like they had secured promotion to the top-flight. They continue to dream of getting out of trouble and ensuring another season in the Premier League.
