Nott'm Forest 2 Wolves 2

Nuno Espirito Santo called the points deductions handed out by the Premier League as ‘a mess’ in the week and he isn’t far wrong. They welcomed Wolves to the City Ground, only sitting above the bottom three on goal difference.

They started in positive mood as Reyna let fly from just outside the box. The midfielder’s low shot narrowly missed the post with Jose Sa scrambling across his goal. It all came from a poor pass by Wolves and almost gifted the player his first Forest goal.

The visitors came forward for the first time and Cunha tried his luck from a wide angle. He caught the shot sweetly but it narrowly whistled over the crossbar of the Forest goal. It should have provided the hosts an early warning of the danger the player possessed.

Nott’m Forest tried to play the ball out from the back and gifted the ball to Joao Gomes. His shot had the keeper beaten but Murillo did brilliantly to clear off the line. It dropped to Sarabia who dragged his shot wide of the goal when he really should have scored.

Wolves then came forward with seemingly no danger as Cunha had no support. He dragged the ball back, in between two Forest defenders, before rifling his shot into the top corner to score a goal from nothing. Questions will be asked about the Forest defending.

Deep into added time at the end of the first half, the hosts forced a corner. Gibbs-White met it with a header which seemed to go through the hands of Jose Sa. Not that Nott’m Forest were complaining as Wolves’ ex-player came back to haunt them.

The first chance of the second half dropped to Reyna as he had another clear sight of goal to open his Forest account. He connected with the cross poorly and it was blocked by the visitors, although the effort seemed to be going wide anyway.

Moments later, Gibbs-White went bursting through the middle towards goal. As sliding tackles came flying in, the ball broke to Danilo. He showed composure as he controlled it and slotted it past Sa to give the hosts the lead once again.

Gary O’Neil’s side tried to find a way back into the game. Substitute Hwang was causing Forest problems. He felt he should have had a penalty when he went down under pressure from Murillo but both the referee and the VAR studio agreed there was nothing in it.

As the visitors forced a corner, Forest showed their Achilles’ heel once again. They failed to deal with the cross and as the header came in towards goal, Sels tried to punch clear, only to see it hit a Wolves player in front of him. Cunha wasted no time to poke the rebound into the net.

In a cheeky response to former player Gibbs-White’s celebration earlier, Cunha copied it, stood right in front of the home fans with his fingers in his ears. As you would imagine, the Forest supporters found it difficult to see the funny side.

Forest almost found a winner when Danilo looked to bend one in the top corner from the edge of the box. Only a fantastic save by Jose Sa was able to deny him. So close to sealing the three points for the hosts, who are desperate for points right now.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were to create one last chance. The ball was fed in behind the defence for Origi to run onto. He hit it across goal but it was neither a shot nor a decent enough cross to pick out Wood at the back post.

Forest had to settle for a draw, which took them one point ahead of Luton Town. In a game of fine margins, the dropped points may prove pivotal, but then again that solitary point could be what keeps them up at the end of the season.
