Sheff Utd 0 Arsenal 6

Not many newly promoted sides have looked so out of place in the Premier League as Sheff Utd. All too often they look like a homeless person at the Oscars ceremony, they stand out like a sore thumb. Their hopes of safety are now looking slimmer than inmates in a Japanese WW2 POW camp.

From the first minute in this game, the pressure was on The Blades. Saka almost opened the scoring but saw his shot coming crashing back off the woodwork. For the Sheff Utd fans, this was the sign of things to come for the entirety of the game.

The Gunners were playing some nice football and as the ball was cut back from the byline, Odegaard was unmarked to slot the ball home and break the deadlock. Sheff Utd looked all over the place defensively whenever Arteta’s side ventured forward.

Saka continued to cause problems for Robinson down the flank and as he put a dangerous cross in, Bogle turned the ball into his own net. The look on the face of the players showed that they were already out of this game, with only 13 minutes having been played.

Martinelli was the next player to find the back of the net as he exchanged a one-two with Rice and his shot took a deflection, giving Grbic no chance in the Sheff Utd goal. This was turning into so much of a nightmare for the home fans, to see Wilder bring on Freddie Krueger as a sub would have been apt.

With less than half an hour of the game gone, Havertz found some space to charge into the box and he drilled a left-footed shot past the keeper as the home fans started to head out of the ground. Even the most ardent of fans could not stay to watch this mauling.

Declan Rice added a fifth before the interval as he made a run into the box and side-footed a shot into the bottom corner. This was getting embarrassing for The Blades and neutrals were starting to think about Premier League records.

Arsenal were finding the game so easy, Mikel Arteta had the chance to rest some of his big stars as the game went on. Despite this, Ben White added a sixth with more than half an hour to play. He drilled a left-footed shot into the far corner, much to the delight of the away fans.

For the majority of the second half, Arsenal passed the ball around and teased the hosts. Unbelievably, The Gunners had 81% possession over the course of the game, another first in the history of Premier League stats.

Arteta’s side continued to look for goals but you could see the impetus had been lost somewhat by the gulf and scoreline between the two teams. The Spaniard was happier to come through the game with no injuries and bask in the glory of one of the most comfortable wins of the season.

The game itself felt like a repeat of Newcastle’s visit to Bramall Lane but the score ended up six-nil and the home fans who stayed are now all but resigned to Championship football next season. Meanwhile for Arsenal, they are in hot-form for the title run-in.
