Sheff Utd 1 Bournemouth 3

Sheff Utd headed into this game hoping to get themselves out of the bottom three, having only won a solitary game this season. Bournemouth travelled to Bramall Lane, looking to continue their improving recent form.

One of the big issues for The Blades so far this season is that they have let more in than the organisers of Glastonbury. Sadly, things did not look to change as Semenyo picked out Tavernier in the box who slotted his effort into the bottom corner.

Nothing silences the home crowd like an early goal. The Cherries continued to grow in confidence as Solanke looked to double their lead but his volley could only find the side netting. Sheff Utd were in danger of being out of this game before half-time.

Semenyo was causing all sorts of problems and as he switched to the left wing, he skipped past the defender and played a sublime pass to Tavernier on the penalty spot. The goal scorer got it all wrong as his effort was more of a danger to low flying aircraft.

Things then turned into a horror show for the hosts. ‘Nightmare on Bramall Lane’ was starring Wes Foderingham. As a rare Sheff Utd attack broke down, a long ball was seemingly an easy thing for the keeper to deal with.

As he came out of his area in a wide position, he got the ball caught under his feet, allowing Kluivert to steal it off him and slot home from a wide angle. Everything that could go wrong for The Blades was and you could see how they had conceded 31 goals already this season.

Sheff Utd started the second half in search of a goal to get back into the game. As Cook dispossessed Hamer, the visitors went on the counter. Semenyo fed Smith out wide and his clipped cross to the back post was volleyed home by Tavernier.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side huffed and puffed in search of a goal but it was more like the wolf had arrived at the little pig’s house that was made out of bricks. McBurnie had a shot blocked and then McAtee blazed the rebound in row M.

The hosts were giving Bournemouth so much time on the ball, they looked dangerous every time they came forward. As Christie was found in the box, his toe poked effort seemed to be heading in until Foderingham reacted smartly to turn it around the post.

Sinisterra then cut in from the right wing and strode into the box. He dummied a shot, sending the defender to the shops and then checked inside before striking at goal. Much to the attacker’s disappointment, the effort flashed wide of the far post.

By this stage of the game, Bramall Lane looked like there was a first round Carabao Cup match going on as there were far more empty seats than fans. Baldock whipped in a cross to the back post and McBurnie headed home deep into added time.

There were not many positives to take from this game for Sheff Utd fans. Even the most positive would struggle to say they were confident in Premier League safety with a straight face. For Andoni Iraola, it was an important three points away from home for his team.
