West Ham 2 Sheff Utd 0

David Moyes’ side welcomed Sheff Utd to the London Stadium after The Blades suffered an 8-0 mauling at home last weekend, at the hands of Newcastle. The visitors were determined to bounce back after the result.

Rhian Brewster made a return to the bench for Sheff Utd after spending eleven months out with a hamstring injury. People have come back from the dead quicker in ancient times. The former-Liverpool striker was a huge signing for The Blades, they will be hoping he can provide the goals they will need to stay in this league.

Jarrod Bowen was as troublesome as ever when he dispossessed the visitors and cut the ball back to Soucek, only for him to blaze his effort over the crossbar from yards out. Big chance for West Ham. James Ward-Prowse then whipped in a corner, headed by Bowen, but Foderingham made a great save to keep him out. Aguerd’s follow up was then headed off the line by Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Coufal got forward down the right and crossed into the path of Bowen who side-footed his effort first time, finding the bottom corner. The West Ham player certainly still is on fire, much to the delight of manager David Moyes.

It did not take long for The Hammers to double their advantage as a loose pass by Hamer was seized upon, Antonio fed Soucek, who knocked the ball past the Sheff Utd keeper. The Blades continue to make simple errors which will be punished at this level.

The visitors created a chance immediately with McBurnie having a sight of goal but the striker could not trouble Areola in the West Ham goal as his effort went harmlessly wide.

As the second half got underway, Sheff Utd managed to fashion another chance from a set piece as the ball was headed towards the back post where Ahmedhodzic rose to meet it, only for Areola to block the effort.

Defensively, Sheff Utd are looking sloppy and this is a major concern for their manager and the fans. While they are creating half-chances at the other end of the pitch, they do not have the firepower to undo what is going on in the defensive third.

West Ham held onto all three points, much to the delight of David Moyes who looks like he is ageing worse than Benjamin Button, in reverse. That aside, The Hammers move into seventh spot as they continue their impressive start to the season.

Sheff Utd meanwhile, are no doubt the strongest team in the league, as they hold the rest of the league up in their bottom position. It is hard to see how Heckingbottom can stay in this job, no doubt Frank Lampard is updating his CV as we speak.
