Wolves 1 Liverpool 3

Wolves welcomed Liverpool to the Molyneux Stadium with Jurgen Klopp’s side looking to change the tide after having a torrid away record last season, after the hosts won the corresponding fixture last season 3-0 in their biggest home win of the campaign.

Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk were missing for the visitors which meant a senior debut for Jarrell Quansah, with Joe Gomez also brought into the defence. It all started badly as Neto did well down the left and crossed to the back post for Hwang to slot home.

Pedro Neto was making Joe Gomez look like this was his first time playing professional football, or football in general as he turned him inside out over and over again. He clipped a cross to the back post perfectly for Matheus Cunha, who made a complete hash of the effort, letting Liverpool off the hook when they should’ve been two-nil down.

The visitors had their first glimpse of goal towards the end of the first half when Jose Sa failed to deal with a cross, gifting the ball to Mohamed Salah. His shot was blocked by two defenders before the keeper blocked Szoboszlai’s follow up.

It was a dreadful first-half performance by Klopp’s side, all their fans could hope for was for the German manager to erupt like the Nuremburg rally on the team at half-time. The manager made one change at the break, bringing on the talented Luis Diaz.

Whatever Jurgen Klopp said seemed to do the trick as Liverpool came out of the traps with Diaz involved in most of their attacking play. It was Mohamed Salah who was fed by former-Wolves player Diogo Jota before the Egyptian played the ball across the six yard box for Cody Gakpo to slot home.

It was the Dutch youngster’s last involvement as Nunez and Elliott were brought on. The impressive Diaz set up Nunez with a chance soon after but Sa did well to block his effort. Liverpool were controlling the game now and Wolves were struggling to keep them out.

Jose Sa then collected a Liverpool corner well and looked to clear the ball quickly to set up a counter-attack but his kick went straight up in the air to Andy Robertson. He came forward, played it to Mohamed Salah and continued his run into the box. Salah found him and the Scottish full-back slotted the ball past Sa to seemingly give the visitors the win in the 85th minute.

Wolves were desperately trying to find an equaliser but as Alisson played the ball up the field to Nunez, he did brilliantly to turn his marker on the halfway line. He ran through on goal, finding Salah who teed it up for Elliott. His shot took a deflection off Bueno and clipped the inside of the post and went in.

The comeback was complete and Liverpool had made it really look like a game of two halves. Some would question whether Wolves would pay for the chances they wasted in the first half and they did just that.

Gary O’Neil’s side had no answer to The Reds’ attacking play in the second half and no one can deny that they deserved their win. Jurgen Klopp will be pleased with the way they came back but will be slightly concerned with the way they started the game.

Liverpool continue their unbeaten start to the season and have shown their ability to come back to turn games on their head, they looked a much better side when Diaz and Nunez were on the pitch. The international break probably affected his team selection but when they have their first choice front three, they can be a real handful.
