Wolves 1 Sheff Utd 0

Gary O’Neil’s side faced The Blades at Molineux as they looked to build on their massive victory over Tottenham in North London. Fans flocked to the game expecting to see a deluge of goals against the side rooted to the bottom of the table, having conceded 66 goals so far this season.

Early on the visitors looked to utilise the long throw of Robinson. He managed to find Brewster at the back post, whose shot was blocked, before he managed to get a second effort away. On this occasion Jose Sa managed to punch the ball clear.

Brewster was causing problems for the Wolves defence with his pace. As he picked the ball up on the halfway line, he burst clear, heading towards goal. With options in the box, the forward tried to get another shot away but blasted it into the stands behind the goal.

Hamer then spotted the run of McAtee who had the legs on Dawson to get away from the defender. The Man City loanee headed towards goal but just as he was about to get a shot away, the Wolves centre-back recovered to block the effort and make for an easier save for Jose Sa.

The Blades were creating openings against O’Neil’s side but you always felt that if they kept on wasting these chances, they would pay for it later in the game. Scoring goals has not come easy for Sheff Utd since their promotion to the Premier League.

Ait-Nouri then whipped a ball into the box and Sarabia met it with his head, flicking the ball into the top corner of the goal. It was Wolves’ first effort on target and had led to them breaking the deadlock at Molineux. Chris Wilder’s side had been dealt the sucker punch after their positive start.

The visitors continued to create opportunities in the second half and McAtee was involved in everything good Wilder’s side did. He managed to get a shot away from the edge of the box, at a tight angle, only to drag it wide of the target.

Hamer and McAtee were linking up well for The Blades, as the Man City loanee put in a teasing cross behind the defence to find Brewster at the back post. He slid in to meet the ball on the half-volley but Jose Sa was equal to it once again.

As the visitors continued to search for an equaliser, another long Robinson throw in was flicked on by McAtee towards the back post. Trusty tried to get a touch to divert it, just as the Wolves’ defender look to hack clear, but the ball again narrowly missed the far post.

Wolves held on for the win but despite having the majority of possession, it is fair to say that the only clear-cut chance they created was the goal they scored. Chris Wilder’s side had the majority of the chances but their inability to convert had cost them dearly.

With Everton’s points deduction being reduced to six points, Sheff Utd are now 11 points away from safety and it seems as though the writing may be on the wall unless they can perform miracles in their remaining matches.
