Wolves 2 Luton Town 1

Two sides met at Molineux who were desperate for a win. While the visitors need points to remain in the league, Gary O’Neil’s side had gone six games without a victory. That run had seen them drop into the bottom half of the table as a result.

The Hatters know how high the stakes are for them now. Chong did well to surge into the Wolves’ half before laying it into the path of Barkley. He tried his luck from outside the box but Jose Sa was equal to it as he beat the ball out.

Wolves went down the other end and Hwang had a sight of goal but his shot was well saved by Kaminski. If the opening of this game was anything to go by, it was going to be end to end stuff as the two sides were hungry to end their respective poor runs of form.

Clark did well getting to the byline for Luton Town before picking out Morris in the box with his cross. The striker seemed to get a good connection on the ball but it was straight at Jose Sa. Having been the side’s top scorer last season, goals have not come so easily for him in the Premier League.

Rob Edwards’ side were struggling to deal with the trickery of Hwang Hee-chan. He twisted and turned in the box before getting a shot off at goal, which took a big deflection, before nestling in the far corner with Kaminski unable to do anything about it.

After the interval Hwang was causing problems again. He tried to cut the ball back to Toti but it was well cut out by Clark. From the resulting corner, the same player met it to head home and double the lead for Gary O’Neil’s side. Toti by name and nature it seems.

Moments later Semedo beat two defenders before looking to drill the ball home. Kaminski did well to make himself big and was able to block the effort. It was probably the wrong option anyway as he had plenty of players in support.

As is the way in a league such as this, you can often be made to pay for not killing games off. Doughty crossed to the back post and it was headed down by Burke. Morris reacted quickest to head home and give the visitors a glimmer of hope with ten minutes plus added time remaining.

Edwards’ side tried to throw everything at Wolves but the only chance they created was a half-volley which Berry hit straight at Jose Sa. O’Neil’s side took all three points and moved closer to the top half of the Premier League table.

For The Hatters, with three games to go, they find themselves two points from safety. Luton do have two home matches in their final three fixtures but it is still a big ask to think that Rob Edwards can steer his side to safety.
