Wolves 3 Everton 0

Gary O’Neil’s side welcomed Everton to Molineux as Wolves looked to build on their recent form. Everton had been dragged back into the relegation questioning as they suffered a couple of defeats on the bounce.

The dangerous Hwang was twisting and turning in the box, with Everton defenders sliding this way and the other past him. He looked to get a shot away but could not find a way through and played the ball into the box but Cunha could not convert.

Wolves did not have to wait too long before opening the scoring as the hosts recycled a corner and Pickford made a great save from Dawson’s sliding effort to deny him. Kilman was there to slot home the rebound with the keeper still on the floor.

Sean Dyche’s side had their first opening of the game as McNeil played Calvert-Lewin in but as he looked to dink it over the keeper, his effort was well wide of the goal. It is now eight games since the Everton striker last registered a goal.

The second half began with Wolves in positive mood and as Hwang got to the byline, he squared the ball to present Cunha with an easy tap in at the back post with Pickford nowhere to be seen. The hosts were looking comfortable with their two-goal cushion.

Hwang almost capitalised on an error in the Everton defence, when Tarkowksi and Keane went for the same ball. As the striker got into the box, there was only one thing on his mind as he shot, but his effort struck the outside of the post.

Cunha then did well down the left and crossed into the box where Dawson met it with an outstretched leg. It seemed to hit his studs but turned into a brilliant finish as it nestled in the bottom corner of the goal.

The visitors almost found a way back into the game when Calvert-Lewin laid the ball off to McNeil who struck a brilliant effort which cracked against the post and came back out. It would have been some strike if it had gone in.

It did not seem like it was going to be Hwang’s day to get a goal when he was slotted in, only to see Pickford make a world-class one-handed save to deny him. Moments later he made a carbon copy run and this time bent the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Wolves’ in-form striker was then left devastated to see the referee’s assistant raise their flag to rule his goal out for offside. VAR reviewed it and decided to stick with the onfield decision, much to the disappointment of Hwang.

Pedro Neto was in fine form this season before he limped off with an injury which has kept him out for some time but he returned to first team action from the bench in this game. Hwang set him up and Neto slotted home to make it four-nil but once again the assistant’s flag was to deny him.

Wolves had a convincing win, Everton had no answer to them. They moved to eleventh in the table, only three points behind Man Utd. The Toffees are now only one place above the bottom three with one point separating them from Luton Town.
