Wolves 3 Man Utd 4

Wolves welcomed Man Utd as they looked to gain some revenge for the reverse fixture where they felt VAR robbed them of a deserved victory at Old Trafford. Gary O’Neil’s side had been in good form of late and will have fancied their chances going into this fixture.

All the talk into the lead up to the game was about the disciplinary issues regarding Marcus Rashford. It seemed fitting that he answered his critics by bagging the first goal for the visitors to give them the lead at Molineux.

Rashford drilled a brilliant shot from the edge of the box into the top corner of the goal to silence the home faithful. His side footed effort bent around the defence gave the keeper no chance of keeping it out as the Red Devils took an early lead.

Luke Shaw then got to the byline and whipped a ball across the box that proved difficult to defend. Dawson seemed to get a touch that took it past Jose Sa but the ball then hit Rasmus Hojlund before ending up in the back of the net.

As Wolves looked to find a way back into this game, Neto went down on the box claiming a penalty. Unbelievably, the referee pointed straight to the spot. The replay showed that if there was any contact from Casemiro at all, it certainly was not enough to send Neto to ground.

VAR reviewed it and decided not to overrule the referee’s decision. Wild. Sarabia stepped up to the spot and drilled it straight down the middle of the goal. Wolves were back in the game when realistically, they had conned the officials.

The visitors restored their two goal lead as a corner was whipped into the box and met by the head of McTominay. As he headed it into the ground, Sa was rooted to the spot as the ball went into the bottom corner of the goal.

With five minutes of normal time remaining, Erik ten Hag’s side had a comfortable two goal lead. As a Wolves corner came into the box, United failed to clear their lines and Kilman stabbed the ball home. It gave the home fans the hope that they could still get something out of this game.

Man Utd continued to push forward themselves and Antony got caught in possession. Wolves streamed forward and the ball was worked to Pedro Neto. He cut onto his left foot on the edge of the box and drilled his effort into the bottom corner of the goal.

The visitors looked stunned that they had thrown away the points in such dramatic fashion. Performances like this were why they are struggling to qualify for the Champions League this season. However, one Man Utd youngster had other things on his mind.

Kobbie Mainoo bent a shot into the far corner of the goal, to send the travelling fans into raptures. United had found a winner seven minutes into added time. Wolves looked dumbstruck, having worked so hard to get back into this game.

Man Utd moved into seventh spot, still eleven points away from fourth spot. Wolves sit comfortably in mid table, closer to their opponents than they are to the bottom three. Despite this, defeat will hurt Gary O’Neil’s side.
